Joey Bruni

Joey Bruni, a graduate of Durham College's three-year Graphic Arts program, has cultivated his artistic style through a multidisciplinary approach, including painting, drawing, photography, and design classes. His journey began during the era of the traditional "Cut & Paste" method, instilling in him a unique appreciation for the artistic side of graphic design. Joey's artwork serves as an ongoing documentation of overlooked spaces and places, challenging viewers to reevaluate their surroundings and break free from mindless daily routines. Through his paintings and drawings, he captures the beauty of seemingly mundane landscapes encountered during his travels across Canada and the US. By sharing his appreciation for under-appreciated scenes, Joey aims to shift the viewer's perception and inspire a newfound appreciation for the overlooked beauty in their own daily lives.

We Are Nature

We Are Nature was sparked by a little known scientific fact about moths and butterflies, and how some have been found to display both feminine and masculine identifiers. These unique characteristics are not only found in insects but in many living beings throughout nature, including our own species.

These brightly coloured works printed from 52 individually carved lino blocks celebrate these unique beings and the natural diversity that has always existed. Each wing quadrant can be mixed with others allowing for numerous wing combinations. The patchwork patterns that emerge are a reference quilting making, community care and solidarity with all unique beings.

May this project is serve as a reminder, we humans are not superior beings, we're just one part of the greater natural systems on this planet we call home, We are ALL part of nature.
